Cosmetic
Surgery Abroad Is Often So Much Cheaper!
But Will the Cheap Cost Be Reflected in the Level of
Professional Skill of My Cosmetic Surgeon, and the Quality of Facilities at the
Surgery?
This is actually a common worry for people planning to arrange cosmetic surgery
abroad. However, the actual cost of your treatment will be based on the comparatively lower salaries paid to
professionals in your destination, combined with lower rental costs. The professional training, the quality of the
laboratory, and the medical treatment itself can be expected to be of the same standard you would get at a German
clinic. In fact, there are countless people from Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic now living in the UK who
always travel back to their home
country for any medical treatment, due to the prevalence of MRSA in British hospitals combined with the lower
expense and shorter waiting lists!
To myself, as a British person, I have to admit that I find it quite embarrassing
that poorer countries than mine, usually with a much lower level of taxation, seem to be able to manage a much
higher standard of health-care!
Generally speaking, you will find that most countries in Europe are much more
tightly regulated in the field of Cosmetic Surgery. In the UK, a surgeon does not actually need to specialise in
cosmetic surgery, meaning that although they may be a very competent surgeon in their own specialisation, it is
quite possible that they are not as up-to-date on all of the modern procedures and advancements in plastic surgery!
In Poland, Hungary or the Czech Republic, as in most of Europe, your surgeon will be trained to a consultant level,
and will be a specialist in cosmetic surgery. Far from receiving a lower standard of care, you will have access to
some of the most highly-skilled and experienced Cosmetic Surgeons in Europe!
This is more anecdotal than anything, but Plastic Surgeons in Eastern Europe are
also often a lot more keen on learning all the new cosmetic procedures, and do not rest on their laurels! Many of
the British plastic surgeons do tend to have the attitude that they know everything even when they don't! I think a
lot of people's experience with the British medical profession will bear this out...
The difference in the fees you will be expecting to pay will be largely a result
of the much lower wages in other countries! In many countries, a consultant in plastic surgery can expect to earn
around a fifth of what a similar surgeon would earn in the UK. While this inequality is obviously a terrible shame,
it is something that you, as a consumer, can benefit from, often paying just a quarter of what you would pay in the
UK for an identical operation!
